2. Reading - Read the two-page "Tough Question" excerpt from a story. Read at least 20 minutes every night. 3. Scholar Speaks - The 1st 10 Scholar Speaks presentations are tomorrow ! Students have a copy of their 3-paragraph essays. They should choose 2 paragraphs for their Scholar Speaks presentation. They might need to "cut" some of the material or "add" more, as the speech should be about 2 minutes long. The oral presentation expectations are in the Scholar Speaks instruction packet. 4. Social Studies/Science Lab - Get parent signatures on papers sent home. 5. Spelling - Homework due on Friday; quiz Friday. 1. Math - Homework for Lesson 5.

2. Reading - Read Chapter 4 of Shiloh, thinking about how Marty is responding to his problems. Read a total of at least 20 minutes (Shiloh can be part of that reading). 3. Writing - If you didn't finish your Introduction Essay (3 paragraphs) in class, finish it at home tonight. Color the illustration. Due TOMORROW. Many students finished in class, and most are finishing the illustration. 4. Spelling - HW due Friday: quiz Friday. 5. Scholar Speaks - Use the instruction packet and rubric to guide your at-home rehearsal. Presentations start on Friday! 1. Spelling - Practice writing the words at least 3 times or until mastered. Homework due next Friday. Quiz next Friday.
2. Scholar Speaks - Students will use 2 paragraphs of their "Let Me Introduce Myself" essay for their first Scholar Speaks. Students have a Scholar Speaks packet with instructions and a grading rubric in their Writing folders. The presentations will begin next Friday and continue the following week. The schedule is in the packet. Goals for this first Scholar Speaks: Engage the audience. Learn how to speak from the text without just reading it. 3. Introduction Essay - Different students work at different speeds. Many students are finished with their final writing and some have finished their illustration. Students who have not finished writing the final draft will need to finish at home early next week and do the illustration at home. 1. Math - Complete the Homework problems for Lesson 1. Remember, the problems are similar to the problems in the Problem Set, so you can look at those for help. You can also watch a video about Lesson 1. Go to the Math tab of my website. There is also "Homework Helper" on the math page of my website.
2 Reading - Read Chapter 2 of Shiloh, looking for clues about setting, characters, the problem and possible themes. Make sure you are reading at least 20 minutes each night. Shiloh reading "counts" and you should also continue reading your own reading book. 3. Bring your personal reading book to class. 4. Bring in papers filled out by your parents. Math - Complete the "How Many Ways Can You Show 14 x 4?" sheet. It is the back of the 12 x 3 sheet we did in class. Use the strategies we demonstrated in class that you wrote on the lined paper.
Reading - Read the packet which tells you about the life of Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, at the author of Shiloh. As you read, underline details which show her character traits. You should be able to find 3 character traits. Daily Reading - 20 minutes Parent Papers - Show parents my website. Ask them to fill out and return the Parent Packet papers, as well as the emergency forms and the registration sheets. |
