Fountas and Pinnell Leveled Book Resources
Fountas and Pinnell (F&P) is a system used to discover a student's reading fluency and comprehension levels. Teachers will read with each student twice a year to learn more about his/her reading strengths and needs. This will occur in December and June. Through the F&P assessment, I will determine your child's instructional and independent reading levels.
While F&P reading levels are helpful in guiding my reading instruction, I believe that your child's reading preferences and interests are also very important. Students should have "voice and choice" in the selection of books. Engaged readers naturally make progress with reading fluency and comprehension!
I have many up-to-date fifth-grade-favorite books in my classroom library that students are welcome to borrow. You can also find new books in the Scholastic catalogs sent home. The Pacific Library is also a wonderful resource and our librarian is available during lunch to help your child select a "just right book."
Here are some published lists which provide titles and F&P levels:

The Pacific School Library Destiny Catalog system can also help you find leveled books at the Pacific Library.
Click HERE to access the Destiny Catalog. To find books at a specific F & P level, find the drop-down menu next to Reading Programs, and click on Fountas and Pinnell. Select the range of Fountas and Pinnell levels you wish to find (e.g., Q to S). You can leave all of the other areas blank. Click "Keyword." You will see a list of all books that our library has at those F & P levels. Of course, you can also do a more specific search or look up a specific book.
